Research & Campaigns
As well as providing advice, every Citizens Advice office campaigns to make positive changes to people’s lives. We do this armed with the evidence we have collected from our clients’ experiences and the challenges they face.
By gathering evidence to influence laws and policies, what we call social policy work, we not only help clients manage their immediate problems but also help to prevent similar issues arising for other people. Even though individual clients cannot be identified from the evidence we record or use, their contribution is extremely valuable in helping us bring about real improvements for everyone.
We draw attention to local issues with Councillors within Waveney and with our MP, and we submit case studies and data to Citizens Advice nationally to add our weight to its campaigning work. Citizens Advice puts out national Calls for Evidence on particular topics, so all offices, just like us, can send evidence in from across the country.
We will make you aware of national and local campaigns via this website but if you would like to tell us about new issues that may adversely affect your life please refer to the ‘Have Your Say’ section below.
Please tell us about your experience of UNIVERSAL CREDIT – use the secure, confidential form below. This will help us campaign for changes if they are necessary – thank you!
The stories clients share in confidence with Citizens Advice North East Suffolk staff provide us with a unique insight into problems faced by people here and we use the data to try to change things for the better.
Currently Citizens Advice nationally is campaigning to stop payday lenders using their advertising to target vulnerable people and treat their customers fairly. It is also campaigning for access to justice, access to basic bank accounts and teaming up with Trading Standards to promote awareness of scams on the doorstep or online, amongst other issues.
