Scams Awareness Event

Thursday 12th July 2018 – An event was held recently at the Citizens Advice offices in Lowestoft  that helped people to know when they had been targeted with a scam. The event was part a national campaign encouraging people to report and talk about scams.

Staff from Citizens Advice and some other local community groups learnt  about the common signs of a scam, such as receiving an offer that sounds too good to be true or being told to pay an advance fee for an item or service. The presentation was given by Trading Standards, alongside staff from the local Police Community Engagement Team. In addition a speaker from NatWest Bank also advised the group on steps it is taking to safeguard people’s money.

The aim of the event was to encourage those present to recognise a scam and help the people they support to report scams so that the police can take action.

People can also always get advice from their local Citizens Advice, the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03534 040506, and if anyone has been scammed already they should report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
