Scams involving fake CAB phone calls

30 April 2014 РThere have been recent reports that imposters claiming to be CAB Advisers are cold-calling and texting members of the public and pretending to offer them help with accident claims, in an attempt to scam them out of thousands of pounds. We stress that no genuine NE Suffolk CAB Adviser (or any Adviser) would ever phone or text someone out of the blue.

We have also been informed by Cambridge CAB about a client who appears to have received a scam call from somebody claiming that they were making a courtesy call on behalf of the CAB. The caller said the client had appeared on their database as someone who may need extra support. The client grew suspicious as the call progressed when the caller appeared to be recommending a particular firm of solicitors.

Please beware.
